This wonder stone is famous in India and it is called by locals as Lord Krishna’s Butter Ball. This wonderful stone is standing from so many years with out falling down and it is one of the wonders after tajmahal in India. This Krishna’s Butter Ball or Vaanirai Kal (Stone of the Sky God), as it is known to locals, has been sitting on a 45-degree slope in Mahabalipuram for over 1,300 years. This butter ball original name is ” Vaanirai Kal ” That means Stone of the Sky God. The 20 ft rock appears to defy gravity, looking like it’s going to roll at any moment – and all attempts to move it have been in vain. There are so many stories are rounding through this wonder stone. While many have said that it was placed in its position by the Gods who wanted to prove their power, or by extra terrestrial beings thousands of years ago, scientists say that the rock is simply a natural formation.
Lord Krishna’s Butter Ball Story :
The Indian and foreign Geologists on the other hand argue that natural corrosion is unlikely to have produced such an abnormal shape. Hindus in India says that deity Lord Krishna would often steal handfuls of butter from his mother’s jar, and this natural boulder is attributed to the mass of butter that he pinched. so many kings are tried to dislodge this stone as because of it can fall down any time. But surprisingly up to now 2016 it is not done. The first king is One of the first individuals to attempt to dislodge the round stone was the Pallava king Narasimhavarman, who ruled southern India from 630 to 668AD. But, The mission was unsuccessful, and a similar endeavor was undertaken in 1908 by the Governor of Madras, Arthur Lawley. He feared for the safety of the town at the base of the hill and is said to have used seven elephants to try to move it, also without any luck. It gives so much inspiration said by some geologists . This rock is also an inspiration behind the famous mud dolls called Tanjavur Bommai. The great King Raja Raja Chola (1000 C.E) was impressed by the rock, and wondered how it did not roll down the slope even though it is not in standing position. How ever this wonder butter ball is famous and attracted all the tourists of mahabalipuram. So, many people are coming mahabalipuram to see this wonderful stone. Unsurprisingly the abnormal rock is popular with tourists and locals, who pose for daredevil photographs under its base, attempt to push it down the hill (in vain) or simply use it as a sun shield.
